Need an SR-22?
An SR-22 is not a type of insurance. It is a certificate your insurer files with the California DMV to prove you carry at least the state’s required auto liability coverage. If a court or the DMV has told you that you need one, we can put the underlying policy in place and file the SR-22 quickly so you can get back to driving.
What is an SR-22?
- A financial-responsibility certificate filed by your insurer with the California DMV.
- Proof that you carry at least California’s minimum auto liability limits.
- Tied to your auto policy, not a separate coverage you buy.
When do you need an SR-22? An SR-22 is usually required after events such as a DUI or DWI conviction, driving without insurance or causing an accident while uninsured, multiple serious violations, a license suspension or reinstatement, or a court or DMV order to prove financial responsibility.
How do you get an SR-22? We add the SR-22 to an auto policy that meets California’s requirements and file it with the DMV on your behalf, often the same day. If you do not own a car, a non-owner SR-22 policy may satisfy the requirement while you drive other people’s vehicles.
How long does an SR-22 last? California typically requires an SR-22 to stay on file for a set period, often around three years, though the exact term is set by the court or DMV. Keeping the policy active and avoiding a lapse matters, because a lapse is usually reported to the DMV and can restart the clock or affect your license.
How we help: we handle the filing, keep the coverage compliant for as long as it is required, and watch for anything that could cause a lapse. When the requirement ends, we help you move to standard coverage. No judgment, just a clear path back to driving.
